How to get there in Hanoi

I'll be blunt: this isn't a glamorous pick, but it's the one I actually use. Noi Bai (HAN) is 27km north of the center, and the immigration hall after a long-haul flight can swallow an hour you'll wish you'd spent at a 5am phở counter instead. The fast-track meet-and-greet runs about 637,900 VND — call it $25 — and shepherds you through arrivals so you're in a Grab to the Old Quarter while everyone else is still shuffling toward the desk.

With 900 reviews behind it, it's the most road-tested thing in our Hanoi inventory, which tells you plenty about how many travelers decide the queue isn't worth their first morning. For a solo budget trip I'd skip it; arriving jet-lagged with family, or landing late when the kitchens are about to close, I think it earns the $25 cleanly.

One thing I won't oversell: this gets you through the door faster, nothing more. The drive into town is still on you — and as I say in the how-to, use the Grab app or a fixed-price counter, never the freelance touts circling arrivals.

After a long-haul, the only thing standing between you and your first bowl of phở is the immigration queue — this buys it back.
